6 Ways to bring your home to life this summer

Summer is here so what better time to start preparing for this new season. Bring your home and its surroundings to life this summer by adding more color and light. Color sets the mood and tone of your house and is also a brilliant way to make a design statement. Now remember also that color has the ability to change the shape and size of a room and even your furniture while lighting can be used to highlight several features in your home. Layout a color palette so your space feels connected and so the colors you choose are blended into pleasing combinations.

Below I have listed several ways to make your living space more exciting. Choose any one of these ideas or better still all of these ideas as inspiration for your summer decoration.

Paint the front door

You want your house to be memorable to your visitors and a beautiful front door makes an outstanding first impression. Choose a color that suits your house and the surrounding landscape to boost the appearance of your house's exterior. In the picture below the blue door matched with the pink flowers creates an eye-catching color scheme to make the exterior of the house more interesting.

Paint another part of your house

Paint another part of your house such as the floor wall or even the ceiling. If you find your floor needing some revamping a cheap way to hide imperfections is by painting the floor which would be less expensive than refinishing the floor. Painting the ceiling is a great way to add an element of surprise to your home as well. Choose a color that you love and also emphasizes the beautiful features of the room. Notice how in this picture the blue wall beautifully complements the brown wooden furniture as well as other elements in the room.

In addition using paint is not the only way to make a part of your house pop. Wallpapers or architectural detailing are wonderful alternatives to take a white wall from basic to bold.

Add little colorful elements

Use more colorful throws napkins and appliances. Throws with colorful patterns are very small changes that add more interest to any room in your house so mix it up and switch it up from time to time. Curtains and rugs are also perfect for adding an instant pop of color. Switch them up from time to time to change the mood of your home to what appeals to you best during the season.

Accentuate with nature

Add some colorful flowers and plants to upgrade your space. Flowers make your home feel homey and complete. A creative arrangement for your flowers and plants in vases or even as a wreath on your door could transform your home. You can also opt for artificial flowers which are versatile and more manageable. Some examples are Zinnia Sunflowers and Harebells. In the picture below the flowers arranged in the clear vases add character to the surroundings.

DIY artwork

This is another wonderful way to make a style statement and create the ambiance you want. Keep in mind how you want to feel when you walk into your space and then start building up your art collection. Hang some colorful paintings and posters that speak to you or even a DIY project of yours would be just as nice!

More lighting

Take inspiration from the surroundings and add more light to your home this summer. Start by making sure you get as much light into your home by opening all the window blinds and tying light-weight curtains with tie backs. Take down heavy drapes since these tend to make a room look smaller. Now you can add artificial lighting to any area in you think needs to be more lit.

Have fun decorating and designing!
